Getting started

What is NETRA?

The register for licensed explosives magazines in South Africa, kept in three apps: NETRA Registry for the company, NETRA Inspect for the Explosives Section's inspectors, and NETRA Field for the drivers of explosives loads. All three work from the same register.

Who is it for?

Companies that keep explosives in licensed magazines: drill and blast contractors, mines and quarries, and their suppliers. Their people use it by role: clerks, magazine masters, explosives coordinators, managers and drivers. Inspectors of the Explosives Section use NETRA Inspect.

How does a company start?

Register your company here: your own account first, then the company with its CIPC number and where it works. NETRA staff check it against the CIPC register and call you, usually the same day. Once approved, you invite your people and set up your first magazine.

Can I sign up in the app?

No. NETRA is by invitation: your company (or, for inspectors, your section) invites you by email, and you choose your password from the link in that email. Then you sign in to any of the apps with that address.

The apps

Which devices does NETRA run on?
  • NETRA Registry: Windows computers and Android phones and tablets.
  • NETRA Inspect: Windows computers and Android phones and tablets.
  • NETRA Field: Android phones.
Where do I get the apps?

For Windows, from Download. For Android, from Google Play. Both keep themselves up to date: the app offers a new version and restarts into it.

Does it work without a connection?

Yes. The apps keep a working copy of your register on the device, so a delivery can be recorded at the magazine door with no signal. What you record is kept and sent as soon as the connection comes back. Signing in for the first time does need a connection.

Can it read barcodes?

Yes. NETRA prints a label for each case it receives, and reads case labels, seals and codes with a barcode scanner or the device's camera. A licence or permit can be read from a scan, and you check what was read against the paper.

The register

What does NETRA keep?

Each magazine with its licence and what it may hold, every product, every receipt, issue, move and transfer, every count, and the month end. The register can be printed for the inspector.

Can an entry be changed or deleted?

Nothing in the register is ever erased. A mistake is put right by a new entry that says so, and NETRA keeps who made each change and when. Acts the law cares about, such as receiving, counting, dispatching and certifying a month, are signed with a personal six-digit PIN.

How do inspectors use it?

An inspector of the Explosives Section opens a magazine in NETRA Inspect, scans every case label against what the register says, and checks the licence lines and the rules. The inspection ends in a signed verdict, which the company sees on the magazine.

How are loads on the road followed?

The driver checks the vehicle in NETRA Field before the trip, scans the seal, and starts the trip. Until the driver taps Arrived, the depot sees where the load is; the driver can press and hold Panic. On arrival the seal is checked again.

Your data

Where is our data kept?

On your devices, and in a database run for us by Supabase in Frankfurt, Germany, reached over an encrypted connection. The privacy policy says what is kept, who processes it and for how long.

Who can see our register?

The people in your company, each as far as their role allows, enforced in the database itself and not only in the apps. A company that orders from you sees its own order and the load until it arrives. The Explosives Section sees what the law gives it the right to inspect. We never sell your data and show no advertising.

Does NETRA Field follow the driver's location?

Only during a trip: from Start until the driver taps Arrived, about once a minute (every 15 seconds after a panic), and never before or after. The phone shows a notification while a trip runs.

How do I delete my account?

Ask your company's NETRA administrator, or follow Deleting your account. What you signed in a register stays, because the law requires the register to be kept.
